Learn all you can about
your printer’s "house sheet" papers. Printers stock various
papers in large volumes to obtain discounts. You can save money if you use
your printer’s "house sheets."
If you are using a coated
paper, we recommend that a flood varnish be added to protect it from marking
– especially if it is a direct mail piece.
Remember, if you are
using a varnish, DO NOT varnish the mail panel. Addresses will smear if printed
on a varnished area.
"Full color"
printing really consists of only four colors – cyan, magenta, yellow
and black. Different combinations and densities of these four inks produce
a full-color effect.
Pantone Matching System
(PMS) is a specific group of ink colors that are universal across all printers.
The colors are referenced in a swatch book and each is given a number. For
example, PMS 294 at one printer should look exactly like PMS 294 from another
printer.
